As the owner of Gut Hunds Dog Training, I’ve been involved in the training of thousands of handler/dog teams. I believe that training is not about the handler dominating the dog; it’s about the handler exercising leadership. Good leaders, the handlers, communicate their expectations clearly and then reward or correct immediately. The leader understands that communication goes both ways and, not only directs his dog, but listens to his dog as well. Good leaders expect their dogs to succeed and will train in a positive environment. I’ve trained dogs that have been used in law enforcement, search and rescue, therapy dog, competition obedience, Schutzhund as well as family pets. The training methods used at Gut Hunds cut across all areas of dog training.
I’m a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, the United States Rottweiler Club and the United Schutzhund Clubs of America. I’m also a certified pet first aid instructor. |
